Collection: Lucy Hawkins

Lucy Hawkins paints outdoors to capture the direct experience of place, gathering inspiration in situ and immersing herself fully in the landscape. Working in acrylics, oils, and mixed media, she often creates semi-abstract works where vivid colour, expressive mark-making, and textured surfaces convey an immediate and visceral response to the natural world. Having lived in the Southwest for many years, Lucy draws particular inspiration from its wilder places—West Penwith, North Devon, and Exmoor.

Lucy graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, University of Dundee, with a BA (Hons) in Design, later completing an MA at Birmingham Institute of Art and Design and a PGCE in Art and Design at Exeter University. Alongside her practice, she is Head of Art at a Dorset secondary school, where she teaches students aged 11–18. She has also led workshops for adults and art sessions for adults with learning differences at Imagine, Learn, Create. These experiences have deepened her understanding of the creative process and the sanctuary that art can provide.
