Collection: Rose Hatcher

Rose is a North Dorset–based textile artist whose practice has evolved over three decades. Beginning her creative journey as a wet feltmaker in the 1990s, she has continually refined and developed her techniques, gradually moving towards her current focus: working exclusively with hand-dyed silk fibres and handspun silk yarns. This distinctive process allows her to create richly textured works that highlight the natural qualities of silk while celebrating colour, form, and craftsmanship.

Since 2010, Rose has been a regular exhibitor in Dorset Art Weeks and frequently shows her work at many exhibitions and events throughout the region. Her pieces are recognised for their vibrancy, detail, and individuality, reflecting both a deep respect for traditional textile practices and an innovative approach to contemporary design.

Passionate about sustaining and sharing handmade skills, Rose is also well known for her role in Dorset’s creative community. She is the host and organiser of Handmade for Christmas—one of the county’s most admired makers’ shows—held annually at her studio, The Workhouse Chapel, in her home town of Sturminster Newton. This event has become a much-loved fixture in the local arts calendar, showcasing high-quality craftsmanship and nurturing connections between makers and audiences.
